Religions In India

People of different religions in India live together. With the establishment of Hindu, Jain and Buddhist religions, religion became a major part of Indian life. India is a country of religions Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jain, Sikh, Buddhist, Parsi etc. In every religion, except for some inequalities, places of worship, festivals, deities have their own importance.

Hindu Religion

Hinduism is the largest religion in India. It is basically based on the four Vedas, which are the oldest creations in the world. Apart from this, eighteen Puranas, one hundred and eight Upanishads, Ramayana and Mahabharata are also major texts of Hinduism. It has three major deities Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Shri Ram is the hero of Ramayana while Shri Krishna is the hero of Mahabharata. Hinduism is the largest religion in Nepal other than India.

Jainism

Jainism is one of the ancient religions of the world. There were a total of twenty-four Tirthankaras in which Vardhman Mahavira was the last Tirthankara. Vardhman Mahavira gave Jainism a broad form. Jainism has had two musicals in its history. It is based on fair knowledge, right conduct, right faith. Jainism is a completely non-violent religion.

Buddhism

Gautam Buddha founded Buddhism. He received knowledge from his family by renunciation. The teachings of Hindu and Buddhism have many similarities. Buddhism is based on four truths. In Buddhism, the ashtanga path of destruction is described. This religion spread rapidly in Southeast Asia and China. The three major texts in this religion are Abhidhamma Pitaka, Sutta Pitaka, Vinay Pitaka.

Sikhism

Sikhism emerged in India in the sixteenth century. Sikhsm was founded by Guru Nanak Dev. There were ten Gurus in Sikhism. Khalsa Panth was founded in 1699 AD. Guru Gobind Singh did it. Its scripture is Gurugranthasahib.

Zoroastrianism

Zoroastrianism was the main religion of Iran. The Persis settled in India in the tenth century when Arab invaders invaded Iran. In India, 85% of the people who believe in Zoroastrianism live in India. Jindabesta, the scripture of Zoroastrianism, and the place of worship is the ‘Fire Temple’.

Christianity

Christianity was founded by Jesus Christ. Christ-ianity came to India by St. Thomas who established a church in Kerala. 1544 AD in India Christian missionaries started working. Christianity spread in India even during the British rule of two hundred years. The Christian scripture is the Bible.

Islam religion

Muhammad was the founder of the religion of Islam. Islam is the second largest religion in India after Hinduism. The religion of Islam first came on the Malabar coast of Kerala after the Arab traders. Later Islam flourished in the Sultanate period and the Mughal period. The place of worship of Islam is the mosque and the religious text Quran.

The largest number of followers of Hinduism in India is 80% of the population of India. Muslim is the second largest minority religion in India.
